Preface:

The worlds of the Realm of Magic were not always made in such a way as they are known today to the mortals. The Realm has a very vivid history indeed, one that remained hidden in the darkness of oblivion far too long. There are quite a few people who can report on this, and to the misconceptions and rumors in the world of mortals, of which I was once an inhabitant too. For this reason, I came to the conclusion that I should write down the history of Realm of Magic, so that the following generations may learn, and that wisdom and knowledge may prevail over superstition.

The first epoch: The age of becoming

Not very much has been handed down from this first epoch. This mainly consisted of oral legends and ancient cult chants, whose grade of truth seems to degenerate from generation to generation. Nevertheless I try to avoid all fairytale and ornamentation of these old sources and to tell the truth.
So read and be amazed. I write about the creation of every being in this world! Once upon a time, when there was no land, no animal, no mortal or immortal there was only a godly ether, encompassing everything and being everything. For eons it stayed this way and at one point of time, when time had not yet importance, a bolt of lightning rushed through the ether and changed everything, destroying the fabric of the ether and rearranging it. The world began to form anew. And there was light.
The ether dissolved into five elements: fire, earth, water, air and the divine spirit. This spirit was the source of Chaos, Order and Balancemanifested in the three implementors of old: Bhao, Erland and Questor. Soon these principles started to change the world and breathed a part of their spirit into the earth - thus the mortals were born.

It is not clear, whether this process had a flaw in it, or wether - as legend tells - the forces of chaos changed the result in an unobserved moment: The mortals were not truly mortal! Certainly death didn't leave, but appearantly mortals' death is not final, as they have the chance to get resurrected! It remains an undesirable occurence whatsoever, as the trauma of death can cause the loss of experience and other things. There are reports on cases of extreme damage done to body and mind. Further studies on this field are surely useful.

The second epoch: The age of the new gods

The following epoch was a time of exploration and discovery on the side of the mortals and a time of creation on the side of the three implementors. At these times many brave and renowned mortals were chosen to be given the blessing and the burden of immortality to.
The heroic and famous Karl, who sacrificed his life in an attack of ferocious creatures in order to save others was the first in a long row. The realm thrived with the new gods and there was a long time of peace and love. The world seemed to be in balance.

The third epoch: The age of war

Spoilt by their new power, the new gods demanded for more. They sought to combine the total power in their hands and to depose the old implementors. The powers of balance got caught in an ambush and were blinded. The world was set to flames. God fought against god. Chaos and order themselves began to fight for absolute power after the loss of balance. Earth quakes and storms hit the realm, shattering the old continent that combined all lands. Vulcanoes broke out and the sky darkened. Every mortal life and every plant got wiped off the face of this world. Parts passed into other dimensions, hold prisoners in them up to this day. But then, when every light was extinguished and darkness encompassed the world, some of the new gods realized what they had done. They restored balance, setting an end to the fight between chaos and order. Those gods however, who still sought to continue the fight, were destroyed or banned into other dimensions, where they are still trapped today.

Some remark: The demon space is on of these dimensions, though I have to admit, that I met beings from other dimensions who claimed that the normal world we live in was one of those dimensions as well, into which we got banned...

The fourth epoch: The age of building

This was a blessed age. After the world has been ordered anew in the third epoch, it was time to discover and to explore the new lands. This process continues until now. This age was as an age, where the old principles of balance, chaos and order gradually lost their importance and new principles like good and evil took their places. This is not true for the old implementors, who maintained their power.
In addition the principle of power got defined anew. The gods, whose influence of the world of the mortals was and is the biggest, became the most powerful ones. This influence was not due to the faith and the praise to the gods alone, but rather due to the physical influence: When many mortals lived on the land of one and many people use the products of this god, then the power of this god raised. Other gods however, who lived only for themselves and didn't create something new for the mortals, lost their power. This may be one of the reasons, why the world doesn't cease to grow and the explorers won't be able to eradicate every white spot on the maps.

The fifth epoch: The age of the mortals

In this epoch, that still goes on, the mortals achieved new forms of social life. Many mortals joined and formed groups to fight together against beings that proved to be too powerful for one person alone. These groups often became friends and real clubs.
So the immortals decided to found orders. The gods would help the mortals with the building of palaces and buildings, but would not interfere with the internal proceedings of the orders, as long as those would not violate the common rules of living together.
Some of these orders were and are led by more or less aggressive mortals. So outright wars between orders took place in the past. This situation demanded a mediator: The post of the judge was born.

There were some other useful services of the mortals and immortals, which were wonderful in my opinion. Not without pride I say, that when I was still a young, I called the Council of Balance into existence, who takes care of the balance between the races and guilds. I have given the administration of the council however into other, capable hands by now. The latest post that was installed in the realm was that of the Lords.

My chronicles ends for the time being. Even with the rank of an implementor by now, I have to admit, that it's difficult for me, to influence the flow of time. So we can anxiously look into the future.

May light follow your ways,

Highlander
